Registration
Registration is the process we take you through to add a new account and your website listing. The registration process consists of several easy steps and these are explained below. It might be beneficial for you to think ahead of what the URLs are for your home page and your links page. Once you have got past the account creation stage, you can easily come back later by logging into your account from our home page.

Account Creation
Creating a new account is the first part of the registration process. This is so you can easily return and modify you website listing or add new ones. To create an account we use your email address and ask you to enter a password. These details are used solely to contact you about your account and for you to manage your account. On completion of this stage we will send you a welcome email that includes your login details. At this point, should you need to, you can come back to your account setup by logging in to your account from our home page.

Website Details
In the registration process a page will be displayed showing the two options for listing a website. We have to schemes for link exchange: SimpleX and PartnerX. Although it is necessary to select which type of link exchange you have opted for, it is possible to change this later on in the registration process.

For an explanation of the two link exchange program please click here .

Once you have decided which link exchange program to use, click the button provided to continue to the website details page. You will then be asked to enter the details for your listing on freelinkers.com.
This includes:
1. the site domain name
2. the category that best matches your site
3. the home page and links page URLs
4. the title and description for your site.

For PartnerX program the URL to your links page will be the page that you create and copy in the install code in the next step. For SimpleX you may already have a links page that you want to use and insert our link into. Alternatively, if you need to create a links page for SimpleX, just create a page using your theme and style settings and then insert our link into that page.

It is important to think ahead and choose the page name so that you can enter the URL to this page. The URL can be modified on the install Code page should you wish to change it in the next step after the website details have been added.

The URLs must include the http:// prefix. These have to be exactly correct for our validation process to find your pages and link to our site. Please refer to Validation later in this document. Once the details have been entered, click the Next button at the bottom of the page. This will save the details and move you on to the next stage, the install code. After this stage you can cancel out of the registration process should you wish to. When you return by logging into your account from our home page you will be able to resume the registration process.

Install Code
There are different install codes depending on the link exchange program you will have selected for your website.

SimpleX
This program uses a single link on your site to link back to us. We in return include your website in our directory under your chosen category. The link is a simple piece of HTML to create the link. It uses the standard A tag. This is an example. download free ebooks, ever conducted.

<Ahref="http://www.freelinkers.com/index.aspx?r= 255">FREE Link Exchange and Directory</A>
<BR >Get targeted traffic from hundreds of link partners<BR>
<A href="http://www.freelinkers.com"gt;http://www.freelinkers.com</A>

The code can be placed anywhere in your page as long as it is between the and tags.

PartnerX
This program is a little more complex to set up but is quite easy if the following instructions are used. The page for the install code shows a drop-down list with the choices of ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, or PERL. You will need to know what type of script language your website's provider allows you to run. If your site is hosted on IIS you are likely to be able to use ASP. If Apache or non-Microsoft, you should be able to run either PHP or PERL. Please ask you website support team to decide which to use. On selection of the script language from the drop-down list, the page refreshes and displays the install code.
This code forms the whole page that you can use. Simply copy and paste it into you website edit program and save the page giving it the name you created for the links page URL in the website registration, in the previous step. The extension name of the page must match the script type you have chosen. If you links page URL needs changing, just edit it on the install code page and click the Next button to save the change.
You are free to change the install code to enable better formatting or integration within your site, if you have the expertise. This might take some trial and error to get the page working correctly. If you make a mistake you can always start again by taking a fresh copy of the code. The code as it stands will generate a page that links with our database. This will display a category page with each category returning a page of links from our database. You can customise each category choosing to display it or not. This is covered in the final section of this tutorial. You can return to this stage at anytime by logging into your account from our home page.

Validation
This step in the registration process will enable you to test your website settings and to set the website as live, if the tests are successful. This will automatically add the site to our directory. The validation process runs some checks to make sure that your home page can be found using the URL you have provided. It will then check that there is a link to your links page from your home page. The validation process will then check that the links page can be found and that it contains the install code you have copied from us. The validation process can be repeated at any time by logging into your account and running the validation.

Edit Links
This feature is only applicable to PartnerX programmes.
Through placing our installed code on a new page, PartnerX websites are able to reproduce our directory listing on their links page. In return other ParterrX websites can link to your website. This facility is used to manage the categories and website links that appear in your links page. Your page links to our database and is generated dynamically. If you choose you may decide to list only categories that are of a similar topic to your website. Additionally, you may choose to edit the websites that are displayed in each category. At present you are not able to influence who links to your site. This may be introduced later as an upgrade.
The facility initially lists each category. Categories can be displayed or not depending whether you uncheck/check a category. The category list starts off with all categories checked. By clicking on the category name a page is displayed that shows the websites in that category. These too may be set to "Accept" or "Deny". If you have chosen to automatically add new websites ( a setting on your website settings page), websites will be added automatically to your links pages. If however, you have chosen to not automatically add websites, you then have to manually "Accept" a website for it to be displayed on your links page.
